César Martin and José Luis Tamayo are the team that form Pagos de Matanegra. Nestled high up in the mountains in the region of Burgos, Olmedillo de Roa produces some of the best Tempranillo anywhere. This is no exaggeration. The proof of this lies with the rich, complex wines prodded by this estate. While César is the one who manages the estate, José Luis is the one who works the land and the winemaker. He is a third generation grower-vintner. This man is a wizard.

The grapes for the Media Crianza Ribera del Duero comes from vines that are 30+ years old, while the flagship wine, Vendemia Seleccionada draws its fruit form vines that are an incredible 80+ years old! The quality of the wines are impressive across the board. It comes as no surprise that this young enterprise scored 91 PONTs from Robert Parker for the 2010 Crianza and 93 POINTS for the 2010 Vendemia Seleccionada.
