Domaine de Font-Sane
GIGONDAS
The Domaine de Font-Sane is a first and foremost a family and a tradition In the heart of Gigondas vineyards (Rhône Valley), one of the most prestigious southern Côtes du Rhone growths, lies the Domaine de Font-Sane since 1860. The know-how handed down from generation to generation draws the very best from the terroirs, and the marriage of tradition and state-of-the-art techniques.
Véronique Cunty-Peysson and her husband, Bernard, have been perpetuating this wine-making know-how, and thus contributing to the defense and reputation of these great wines. Their son, Romain, who had recently arrived on the estate after a Master in International Wine Business, handles the commercial sector in France and abroad. The Domaine is about 16 hectares (39 acres) divided into Gigondas, Ventoux Vielles Vignes and a Ventoux Rosé. From the Domaine itself you can see, protected by the majestic rock faces of the Dentelles de Montmirail against the charming village of Gigondas.
When we first visited Véronique in 2005, we were drawn by the old vines and the ones planted against the slopes of the Dentelles des Montmirail. The latter are toothy, lacy mountaintops that act as wallpaper like background against the town of Gigondas. Véronique is one of the finest winemakers in Gigondas and that is saying a lot in an area where there are a lot of luminary winemakers. Her family has been farming here for generations.
What distinguishes Domaine de Font Sane wines are two things. One of course, is Véronique herself whose experience and intuition spans over 30 years. Secondly it is the choice of vineyards that she farms. We can unpretentiously state that this domain makes some of the most elegant wines from Southern Rhone.
