Ferré i Catasus
Catalunya
Not far from Barcelona, in the town of La Granada in the Alt Penedes, you will find the Masia Gustem. This quaint farmhouse is the headquarters of Ferre i Catasus.
This is a family enterprise that owes it’s roots in the 1930’s when Josep Maria Ferré i Catasus’s father married Maria Catasús Demenech in secret and in the process he lost his birthright and claim on his land. Josep Maria Ferré i Catasus who subsequently became a food trader nursed the dream of returning to his roots some day. In the 1980’s he and his wife Sonia Serrano realized that dream by moving back to their ancestral land in to cultivate their vineyards. Josep Maria and Sonia’s dream to return to Penedes was as much driven by the desire to produce some of the best wines from the region as their desire to reclaim their birthright. As true Catalans, they placed absolutely no limits on what they could derive from the land.
In the 90’s their son Lluis Ferré became the winemaker. He resuscitated the Masia Gustem that now acts as a nexus to their property. Here is their cellar and winery and this became a symbol for their estate. Over time, this grew to include several prized appellations including Priorat, Terra Alta, Montsant, Cava and Rioja.
They combine a blend of traditionalism and modernism that has resulted in wines and Cavas that have garnered awards from the Guia Penin, International Wine Guide, Wine & Spirits and The Wine Advocate. The true merit of these wines lie not merely in the accolades they have received but also in the fact that most of their wines feature in renowned restaurants in Barcelona such as 4Gats and Sumoll.
Ferré i Catasus has partnered with Sierra Nevada Imports to bring their exceptional wines and Cavas to our tables. Discover their incredible range of wines.
