Domaine Passot
BEAUJOLAIS
Ne jamais dire jamais…Never say never Dominique Roux from the village of Régnié-Durette took a solemn vow never to marry a viticulturist. Remy Passot from Chiroubles nursed ambitions to be a fireman, a pilot or an astronaut. Remy realized very soon that his passion was vines and to be a winemaker. In 1989 thanks to a good bottle of wine, Dominique broke her vow and wed Remy.
Never underestimate a good wine and as Remy would say “ne jamais dire jamais” – “Never say never”.
The family Passot grew over time with Félix, Simon and Marie-Lou. Their property grew over time as well to 12 acres of choice vineyards in Régnie, Chiroubles and Morgon. Also, a small portion of the land was devoted to Viognier, a grape that Rémy and Dominique found to do remarkably well on their land. When we first met Remy it was right in front of the 12th century Byzantine church that is at the center of the town of Chiroubles and within a few feet of the statue erected in honor of Victor Puillat. He was driving a pickup truck that afternoon and when we shook hands, we could not but help notice the dirt under his fingernails. Remy is a farmer and had he become a fireman, or a pilot or an astronaut he would have excelled at it as much he does as a viticulturist. Thanks to his modesty, he does not easily reveal his vast expertise as a winemaker. Besides tending his own excellent vineyards, Remy manages the much venerated Chateau de Raousset in Chiroubles.
The wines from this vineyard has garnered international acclaim. He is a fifth generation winemaker at that too! The family Passot possesses passion, history and the gift of terroir. All their wines reflect that. We are proud to carry all of Dominique and Remy’s wines.
