Cortes do Tua
Douro
Approximately 70 miles east of the Atlantic, the Douro is joined by it’s tributary, the Tua river. Go upstream and in the mountainous terrain of the Tua Valley, you will find the small vineyards of Cortes do Tua.
Ana de Almeida and Duarte de Costa are the young owners/winemakers. She worked at Vale d. Maria and he worked with Quinta Nova, among other places. The vineyards belong to her grandfather. Although this vineyard is more than 30 years old, the first vintage of this winery as Cortes do Tua was only released in 2016 (the 2015). The vines are near the Tua River at high altitudes (550 meters and up) in Douro Superior.
The soil is schist (slate) and the unique microclimate of the south-west facing slopes confer an excellent environment to produce some amazing wines. All harvest is done by hand and the winemakers are counted among the rising stars of Portuguese wines.
Make no mistake, this is a young winery and everything it has shown so far promises a very bright future. We fell in love at the first sip. In fact, we are willing to state that the Soulmate Grande Reserva is among Portugal’s finest white wine. Take us up on it!
Sierra Nevada Imports’ first Portuguese winery is destined to be a legend.
