Aivalis Winery
Nemea
Christos Aivalis makes an impression- both as a person and with the wines he makes. His family has been making wines in Nemea for almost 5 generations. His winery is outside the village of Petri and he can be very much described as a garagiste style of winemaker with very much hands on approach in the fields as much as in the cellar.
In Nemea, Agiorgitioko is king and one would be hard pressed to find a better Agiorgitiko than the one from Aivalis. The philosophy of Christos is very evident here. He makes his vines work hard. They are dry farmed and seldom see any fertilizers. The estate adheres to organic style cultivation and all grapes are hand picked, fermented in barrels and bottled without any fining or filtration. This is a very pure expression of Nemea.
Christos makes 3 versions of Nemea. His Aivalis Nemea is a dense, inky wine with complex aromas and structure. It is redolent and jammy with black fruits, peppery, cinnamon, vanilla and with an impressive finish. This wine demands meat – smoked, BBQ, grilled, braised or roasted!
Christos Aivalis is ably assisted by his son Sotiris Aivalis who trained in enology in Burgundy. This is a property that easily wows the discerning wine lover and we are delighted to represent this boutique winery from Nemea.
