A happy accident lead me to Olivier Paul-Morandini. That’s a story for another day. This is about Olivier Paul-Morandini and what he believes.

A son of Italian immigrants in Belgium, Olivier spent a good deal of his early adult life working for the European Parliament. His achievements in this sphere are many and they lead to many adventures. One such adventure lead him to Tibet where he escorted many children in exile through the Himalayas. During my first meeting with him, he mentioned that one of these children, a girl held his hand for a long stretch of that cold, arduous trip. Her name was Pemà.

Olivier found his second purpose in the hills of Maremma in Tuscany. The proximity to Bolgheri is not one to be ignored. The vineyards are cultivated with incredible respect. Organic/Biodynamic equivalent methods are utilized. The wines are unfiltered, unfined and very minimal sulfites are used. The sulfite levels of all the wines are shown. There is total transparency in his style – that is so apparent when you taste these wines. Such kind of winemaking and living requires remarkable patience – which comes very useful when you work with importers/distributors like us! We admit we haven’t spent as much time with Olivier as we wanted . But the short time we spent sharing a meal and tasting his wines, gave us a glimpse into this remarkable person. His love very much includes his son Matteo.

Fuori Mondo is probably one of the smallest wineries in all of Europe. Production is in the 100s of bottles. However, every one of these wines are destined to be legends. The production includes varieties such as Alicante Nera, Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sierra Nevada Imports is delighted to bring all the bottlings of Fuori Mondo.
